Gildan 'Heavy Cotton' Custom Print Offer

For years we exclusively sold Gildan 'Heavy Cotton' shirts, which were perfectly suited to the screen printing techniques we used in-house at that time. These shirts, robust and reliable, were a fantastic match for our hand-printed designs.

However in 2021 we transitioned to partnering with a global network of print partners equipped with state-of-the-art Kornit Avalanche DTG printers.

Priced at around €300,000 each these printers represent the pinnacle of digital printing technology. To maximize the potential of these advanced machines, which require flat, even surfaces for optimal print quality, we switched brands from Gildan, to European brand B&C Collection. The fabric used by B&C on their heavyweight shirts is exactly the kind of tightly knit ring spun cotton DTG printing needs for a great print finish.

Unlike the ring spun cotton, the Open Carded cotton used in Gildan 'Heavy Cotton' shirts has a rougher texture and a more uneven surface, leading to significant ink absorption and a less even print finish. This results in prints that appear to sink into the fabric, contrasting sharply with the vibrant, surface-level prints achieved with digital techniques.

After extensive testing we found the print finish on B&C shirts to be far superior—they offer the same fabric weight as the old Gildan shirt but with a much softer touch to the fabric and a more modern shaped cut. So for this combination of reasons we switched to B&C.

We appreciate that many customers have lots of Gildan shirts and would quite like to add to their collection with more of our designs, so we're pleased to offer the option to custom print any design from our Heavyweight range on a Gildan 'Heavy Cotton' shirt at no extra cost.
